Should some people NOT JOIN a Group?
MasterMind groups are about trust and commitment; supporting others and being open to your own opportunities. Therefore, certain types of people should NOT join; specifically:
• If you are curious, not serious, about developing your business.
• If you prefer to be right, always, and must convince other of that.
• If you primarily want to work alone
• If you are not willing to both ASK and GIVE help and support.
• If you cannot commit to attending teleconference MasterMind meeting consistently and on time.
What is the typical LENGTH of a Meeting?
All meetings are ninety (90) minutes.
Groups are formed based on one of three meeting formats; none of which is constantly available (you may request consideration for the next group format you desire):
Weekly – this offers the most rapid progress and the most intense effort. Good for some, time requirement too high for most.)
Bi-Weekly (every two weeks) – Our most popular format; achieves amazing results at a rapid, but not excessive, pace.
Monthly – Significant results are achieved through monthly meetings, yet many find the span between meetings too great.
How Long do Groups stay together?
Our MasterMind groups remain in existence as long as the members are deriving value from the meetings.
We initially require a three (3) month commitment – no trial memberships, no look and see, no refunds. Our experience is that this is the correct time for barriers to be removed, trust developed.
You, the member, decide on cessation or continuation of the group at the end of the first six (6) months. Your facilitator will request a vote by the membership on the future of the group.
Are there requirement between meetings?
You, of course, work on achieving the results – goals – generated in the previous meeting.
Most importantly, a private, on-line, Message Board is created for each specific group – access restricted to group members – for an exchange of ideas, questions, thoughts, whatever at any and all times. Thus, you can continue discussions or introduce new topics to your MasterMind partners. (There is life between meetings!)
Are TELEPHONE MEETINGS really as effective and powerful as face-to-face meetings?
Absolutely. In fact, in some aspects, more effective than in-person groups (body language is only “heard”, not seen). Our company has conducted training and coaching both in-person and by telephone and our experience has been that telephone conducted groups are as cohesive, loyal, committed and powerful as face-to-face.
What happens in a typical meeting?
You, the member, create the meeting so, unless you and all the others are exactly the same all the time, there is no “typical” meeting.
MasterMind alliances are not a study-group or class. In each meeting, you bring to the group the challenges you're facing, the decisions you need to make, the ideas you want to brainstorm. You bring what's most important to you and you're not limited to an artificial structure of pre-set topics for discussion.
What can I bring up during the meeting; what are some examples?
You may bring up anything concerning your business … specific operational issues and/or self-development topics; such as:
• marketing questions and help with specific marketing techniques
• a request for people to review a new page on your website
• how to deal with a difficult client, colleague or employee
• setting fees **
• creating passive income with products
• dealing with frustration and time constraints
• creating a new, big vision for your business
• designing programs for your service business
• finding joint venture partners
• figuring out where you're self-sabotaging your own success
• brainstorming a new logo
• keeping motivated when you're overwhelmed
• breakthrough places where you're just plain stuck
• bundling your services
• ...And anything else about you and your business. (Bear in mind, your facilitator – Lyle Johnson or staff member – is not part of your group and can provide guidance upon request. Our facilitators have many years of management consulting experience … in your Industry!)
** Fees / Pricing note: There are significant benefits in discussing pricing strategy and tactics. There are potential problems, however (especially since most of our groups are “industry specific”)
1. Competition. We carefully screen group members to ensure that they are in different metro-markets (areas of dominant influence). Thus, there is no concern of revealing competitive information. (Our screening is as thorough as possible and members will all be held to non-disclosure agreement and we expect all our members to be honest and honorable people.)
2. Legislation. The discussion of pricing and fees, by entities in separate and distinct markets, cannot result in price fixing or collusion – e.g. Federal Trade Commission, Robinson-Patman Act, Clayton Act, Sherman Anti-Trust violations. Again, we check to ensure members do not have satellite or remote locations which may overlap other members areas and we to trust to the integrity of our members.
How many people do you allow in your Groups?
The maximum allowable number is seven (7) whereas are preference is for a group of six (6) people.
However, occasionally, we end up with more or less than that number. What we assure you is that the range is from five (5) to seven (7) and the group shall never exceed seven.
Your Groups seem small; I know of some with 50 or more.
First, “mastermind” is a popular concept and some Networking and/or Group Coaching use the term to attract members. Those groups may provide valuable contacts and information for their members, but they are not true MasterMind groups.
Everyone in a true MasterMind group is given time at each meeting to talk about their business situation (not just an “elevator speech”). Large groups do not allow everyone to participate at this level.
In addition, large groups do not allow you to really get to know your mastermind group partners (and for them to really get to know you.) By keeping the group small, we can work deeply on your challenge or idea, and get to know you, too!
How much time must I commit for MasterMind meetings and between meeting activities?
If you wish to be a member, and are accepted as a member, be a member! Make a commitment to be at every scheduled telephone meeting for the full and complete 90 minutes. Each member is a vital and necessary part of the meeting.
Once you are accepted, mark your calendar with the meetings times and dates immediately so that you don't forget them or schedule something in their place by mistake.
In addition to the phone meetings, your participation in the online message forum is strongly encouraged. If at all possible, spend one hour per week – a few minutes each day - on the message forum; get and give between meetings.
Isn't MasterMind Group about the same as Networking, Leads or Referral Groups?
No it is not. (See above FAQ “Six members seem small”.)
While you might end up networking and sharing referrals with your mastermind partners, the sole purpose of a mastermind group is to grow your business through brainstorming, support, encouragement and getting/giving advice.
Are MasterMind Meetings Classes?
You will learn many things in a mastermind group, but it is not a class. There is no pre-defined curriculum or agenda of topics; instead, it's customized for your needs. You bring your own agenda to each meeting. You decide what's most important to talk about at that meeting based on what's going on with your business in that particular moment in time.
How do MasterMind Groups and "Group Coaching" differ?
There is a significant difference.
Mastermind groups are facilitated by a small business expert, but the focus of a mastermind group is forging a long-term relationship with your mastermind partners, and brainstorming decisions, ideas and solutions to problems.
In group coaching, advice is rarely given. (Coaching is about progress through self-realization.)
In a mastermind group, advice is freely given and brainstorming brings ideas, solutions and results -- and it's a major reason why people join.

Why must I "qualify" for membership in one of your Groups?
We do not “just accept” everyone because we are sure you want to know the member of your group members are going to be there for you; that the group is going to be cohesive and harmonious. Therefore, through having prospective members apply for a mastermind group membership, we make a concerted effort to place the right people into the right groups . . . weed out those who simply are not going to be committed to the mandatory phone meetings or to seriously growing their businesses.
NOTE: We do issue INVITATIONS during the formation of certain groups. The invitations are generated by a database analyses and Invitations do not guarantee acceptance; a further review and/or interview is required.
If I am not pleased with the other members, what can I do?
You don't need to worry about "problem members" or the group not running smoothly.
The purpose of a professional mastermind facilitator is to help the group work together. I (your facilitator) am the “heavy”; if there are problems, just let me know and I'll take care of it.
Remember, the purpose of a mastermind group is to work in a spirit of harmony and shared endeavor. It's my job to make sure that always happens.
Is it true that I can be "fired"; required to leave a group?
Yes, I may have to remove you.
If you do not abide by the group guidelines of etiquette, or if you miss more than one phone meeting in the three months we'll be meeting together, you will be asked to leave the group and your money will not be refunded.
The synergism of the group must be maintained for people who are seriously willing to commit themselves to growing their businesses. Therefore, actions which create negative energy cannot be tolerated.
How private - confidential - are the meeting contents?
Meetings are not recorded. Each member is required to sign a non-disclosure agreement so that you can be assured that our conversations are private.
What is the investment for membership; your fees?
The are several investment levels based on the frequency of the group meeting.
